Lesser known facts about 74-year old Stephen Hawkings

Today, remarks the birthday of the famous genius scientist Stephen William Hawking emerging from the fields field of cosmology and theoretical physics. The people all around the world who are passionate about physics and who are not it is next to impossible that they have not heard about him. Renowned for the Hawking radiation, Penrose-Hawking Theorems and the book A Brief History of Time written by him, Hawking has achieved a lot. At his 74th birthday, we salute the wisdom and courage of the brilliant cosmologist.


At the age of 21, Stephen Hawking was diagnosed with ALS, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis a disease where the nerves controlling voluntary movement are attacked and only 10% of patients live longer than a single decade. Defying the opinion of doctors and others the scientist is living into his seventh decade, spending the lifetime in a wheelchair the determination of Stephen Hawking led him to be awarded a Nobel Prize.

In the school days, he was nicknamed ‘Einstein’ by the classmates and later on, he ruled the Oxford’s entrance exams for scoring a scholarship at age of 17 for studying Physics. As it is next to impossible to add up Hawking’s whole life in a sentence, but an equation can do it. The Hawking radiation is the theoretical prediction that the black holes present in our space emit radiation. The statement given by him that God has no role in the creation of the universe is termed as most controversial thing said by him.

Holding diverse academic posts like being appointed as the Commander of the Order of British Empire and earning the U.S. Presidential Medal due to the contributions made by him through his work.
